my snake has had first hand experiances with it.. i fed it every 2 days for a week and it just didnt do a crap but tried to so we took it to a vet and he said i was because of accesive feeding.. it was basically constipated but i forgot the actualy word (it was a very long time ago!)..

Mate there is that much misinformation about reptiles in general. It seems to stem from the fact that people read or hear something then take it as gospel. What makes it worse is they then proceed to regurgitate the same old crap at any opportunity which perpetuates the rubbish.

"power feeding" animals to adult size (ect a darwin to 5ft in its 1st year so it can breed by its second year) is known to produce problems a large breeder whome i bought several pythons from in brisbane told me this info and was confident that powerfeeding does produce problems and eggbinding as he owned 100's of snakes and has kept, bred, grown offspring and bred them again over afew generations i belive what he says is true and he admits that his a small number of his origional pythons ended up dieing from eggbinding (gradually had eggbinding problems every year till they proved fatal)

This is my opinion from my experience.

A snake defecates what it's body does not need and does not absorb. I have had experience in this first hand. I bought a snake that was waaay undersized for her age, and very very thin. She had a hopper rat the day after I got her, and she had completely digested it in under 24 hours. We fed her again 2 days later, and she did the same thing. It wasn't until the 3rd feed that she actually defecated, and even then only a small amount. She continued to do this for quite a few weeks. She did however, urate during this time. She is now eating on a weekly basis and defecating regularly also. Yes, for those of you that may have concerns, I did check with my vet first.

Hi Scout,

Feeding every 3 days is too much, end of story.

Bredlis will often go into that 'hunt' position you talk about, mine do it almost every night, it is instinct, snakes are opportunistic feeders. Feed about every 7 days as juveniles, mice and even day old chicks, which mine have become very fond of.
