Ovulation, obvious?

Does the size of the snake (take BHP's for example) affect how obvious ovulation is? In other words is it easier to see ovulation in a smaller or more slender snake than perhaps one that is 3m? I'm curious as to whether larger snakes swell at the same proportion as smaller ones.

Yeah, the swelling happened suddenly and lasted 2 or 3 days.

My girl is about 9kg and spends a lot of time in her hide box, is it possible for me to miss it? BTW great looking snake.

Not if you view your snakes regularly. The change is seriously massive, it rarely lasts much longer than 24 hours and apparently can be as short as 8.

yep, ovulation should be fairly obvious. but you can miss it if you dont check on em all the time.

Ovulation is fertile eggs moving down the body, when you see ovulation it means your the snake is now gravid. Follicle growth can be mistaken for ovulation, i think that is what you are thinking of.

The snake will loose the alot of swelling but will stay fatter than normal once she finishes ovulating.

so are you saying that if the snake is not mated she will not ovulate?? becuase anatomically ovums (unfertilized egg) do not become zygotes (fertilized eggs)untill after ovulation.

the feamales well swell up a bit when they ovulate but if they dont sucsessfully mate and the eggs arnt fertilized the swelling will go away and she will become normal again. if the eggs are sucessfully fertilized, they will begin to develope and the swelling will hang around and get bigger till she drops em out.

Females may develop follicles and ovulate without mating although the eggs can only be fertile with the inclusion of sperm which has to come from a male.Sometimes the sperm may be from the year before. If animals ovulate they produce eggs but the eggs will not necessarily be fertile. Animals may produce follicles but not go on to ovulate. This is often misconstrued as reabsorbing eggs.
Thats a farmers interpretation. I am sure Gordo or Sdaji can give us all the big words to go with it.
