Armand, I am assuming you want to look at what Herps Roy has for sale?

Some of Roy's links on his site are down, but you can still get to where you want. Try this.

Go to the home page, click on reptiles, then under the herp menu on the left side you will see a paragraph of black text, starting with "Based in...", you will see the last word of that paragraph is 'products'. Click on it and the page it takes you to has a fully working herp menu on the left side.

I sometimes wonder why some of these places have websites. It is by far the most effective form of marketting these days, yet they go for months without updating?

Yeah I get really frustrated with businesses that have:

a) no website
b) a crap website
c) a really out-of-date website

And websites that have an enquiry form, but never bother to respond! They lose my business!

Amazing as it is, not all businesses bother with modern technology.

I totally agree. Its bizarre in 2008 that these things are happening. I'm not a geek, but I've designed a few websites, and to re jig P4S to make it look half reasonable would only take a day or two. Same applies to Herp Shop: frames with scroll bars, what tha?? Both great Vic stores let down by crap sites.

Also, how come no one selling reptile supplies seems to use PayPal?

The Herp Shop is intentionally low tech so it works well for all users regardless of what they use for a browser etc.

Flashy front ends have a certain cute appeal but they are just clutter on sites that people visit regularly.

Frames are not currently fashionable but they have their place ensuring that regular visitors can easily and quickly find their way around.

The overriding design criteria for the Herp Shop site is that most items can be found within 3 clicks.

A number of the more "modern" web sites sacrifice user friendliness for the sake of looking good.

I totally agree that overuse of flash and other gratuitous web design candy can detract and make a site user unfriendly (see http://www.websitesthatsuck.com/ for some examples). Further, I agree that Herp Shop is quite useable, and in fact I spend a lot of time daily browsing it!

However, I do strongly believe one can have quite a streamlined aesthetically pleasant site which is still not unnecessarily complex/inaccessible. There's low tech and there's just plain dowdy!

PS There are so many website designers around if you throw a rock you'll hit one! (Don't throw it too hard as they're all undernourished through long hours indoors).

will agree, the herp shop site is far less confusing than many shopping websites in general. Navigation is straight forward and it is a clean layout (dont have to go searching for hidden buttons)
