paint + snakes?

I'm planning on getting a snake soon, just wanting to know - if i was to paint any hides/ backgrounds, just using acrylic paints, will this be harmful to the snake? is there anything i should/shouldnt do???
actually, is there anything i should defintaly avoid putting in my tank?? i know it seems like a silly question, but i dont want my snake getting hurt over something little. (or at all!)

I've used kids non-toxic acrylic paint inside my enclosures, and it's been fine.

Most Acrylic paints are fine, As long as they are fully cured before introducing any animals. As for things to avoid, Sticky tape inside enclosures is not advisable.

Miss Feli, Ive been down the same path as far as fibreglass hides. The general consensus seemed to be that so long as they are cured, they should be ok. If you can, leave the hide out in the sun (on the roof etc) for a couple of weeks to burn off the nasties.
Also make sure you dont use any of the 'cadmium' (lead) colours as they are extremely toxic.
cheers, toon
