Hey all,
My enclosures are all done now and all that needs to be done is to put some perches in. They are 4x2x2 abd 3x2x2, so i was thinking of just putting a piece of dowel in the middle of the enclosures from side to side, or do you think it would be better to have more than one dowel perch in the enclosure. I could put one low 1/4 of the way in and one high 1/4 of the way in or i can just chuck one smack bang in the middle under the heatting light.
What would you do?

I have seen people use wooden hand rails from a balustrade, seemed to give a good wide base.

Anyone else. Surely there is more than 1 person who could reply on this question.

I would go with plan b and have a couple of branches attached with chain and hook and eyes.

I use both dowel and hand rails in my cages, aswell as pvc pipe in some. I'd say the hand rails are the better option.

We use pieces of bamboo , you get them from most home or antique shops, they really look excellent and are strong for when your snake starts getting big, just another idea!!!!

HA thats where I'd seen it. I think you've posted that first pic before
I guess one thing to consider is the benefits of making the perch removable, certainly could helkp with a stubborn python

Just make sure the perches don't extend to an area in the enclosure where you can't reach. (ie my big wooden enclosure which has massive long branches heading up into the corner) as it has been said....stubborn pythons that want to cling tightly, won't come out.
I've seen people drill holes into their plastic enclosures and threading through branches, but you would have to make sure that they don't get pushed out for easy escape route, and then someone said to me use curtain rail hooks over the edge of the tub..? But haven't figured that out yet.
