Hi all those in the know.
I am building a 1.2m x 1.2m enclosure for some future Jungles and was wondering about the pro's and con's of using 6mm perspex instead of glass.
All constructive advice welcomed.

Is it going to be a opening door for access or a sliding glass/perspex

Perspex shows up scratches more than glass and is more expensive. Does perspex become brittle with age? Unless you're having hinged doors I wouldn't use it. Ask 'theplantguys' (Chris) if he has any pics of his setups. He has hinged perspex doors which seem to work well and look good.

Access to the enclosure is from the back, dont like the look of overlapping glass etc.

Hi,
Perspex is expensive, 6mm will tend to warp so you will have to put multiple latches in different places. It can be hard to drill and generally you need a specieal bit. The fact that is can be drilled (unike glass) is a big plus though if you are wanting to hinge it.
If your not going to be opening from the perspex side then use glass.

I like your thinking, been working on something similar myself except the front will be framed glass and is totally removable for cleaning purposes.

You can drill glass, there are some really good hinges available for full glass doors.

Didn't know that cheers.
I just don't think you can do it at home unless you have all the right gear?

Perspex scratches easily and is expensive as has been said. I have drilled glass a number of times and it isn't hard with a glass bit.

I have always used perspex because of it's insulation properties,( it gets cooooold where i live) and yes it scratches very very easily.

Good thread. I've wondered about this myself before.
