If you want the python just for a pet (not for breeding) and you can find a cheap hybrid which you like, then go for it.

Fozzard, I suggest you do your research first rather than take advice from people who have just bought snakes themselves.
Hybrids are worth less money, but often not much cheaper to buy, you can't breed them later on, you contribute to the mongruel problem.
That's my opinion anyway, most of the newer people into herps don't agree. I just don't want to see our hobby go like it did in the states where it's very hard to source pure animals...it's gotten bad enough now.
Anway, that's a whole other argument, do your research over this site and make sure your advice is from experienced people.
Check around the snake classifieds and you will find a pure snake cheap enough: http://www.reptilesdownunder.com/ahc (there's a murray darling on here for $100) http://www.herpshop.com.au
Have you got your license and adequately set up?

if thats the case, that's just wrong. I hate it when people don't advertise them properly.
Fozzard, if you could spend between 150-200 you would have a far better range of carpets to get. Like with anything, you get what you pay for.

Nervous (from this site) has great coastal carpets going between $175 and $190.
I bought one recently and couldn't be happier.

if you are wnating a hatchie, i don't think you'll find too much around at the moment cos most will have been hatched and sold some time ago. In saying that there is still some around, just have to have a bit of a look. You need to figure out what type of snake you want as your pet, and then source one. Once you've figured out what you want, just ask on this site and i'm sure someone will be able to help you out.
