Prices Falling!

I'm sure many of you have seen the Tanami womas advertised for $1200 each on HERP TRADER , i can't believe they're still for sale when i know people have already put their names down for some next season as they couldn't get any this season.

Is it because they are so much cheaper than usual that people might think there's something wrong with them? They're nice looking Tanami womas as far as womas go,if i were after some i'd have snapped em up ages ago.Looks like their prices are definitely dropping to something half reasonable

Single male aspidites are a pain to sell, everyone wants a girl or a pair.
Its late in the season and he advertised them cheaply just to quickly move them on, even as yearlings I have seen male woma for $1400 and male bhp for $800.
I dont see it as a price trend, the bubble must burst eventually but new herpers keep coming.
Did any one see any cheap aspidites females for sale???????

Prices Falling!

AD got it right there browns theres not too many cheap females The males at 1200 are quite nice but its allot when you can get a nice pair of bhps for 1800.Might be ok for some peron that wants a nice additional male.

I'm suprised these males are causing such a stir. Single male womas have always been cheaply available. Even in the 90's, you could pick up yearling and adult males of very high quality for under $1,300. I remember being tempted to buy one from a well known breeder over five years ago, for $1,300, after he hadn't managed to sell him for a few months. He was a really nice snake, about 3 years old, but I decided against it because I couldn't have afforded a female, even if I was somehow able to find one.

People have been saying the same thing every season for longer than I've known what a woma is. The price will drop at some stage, but there aren't any signs of it yet.

Prices Falling!

Saj you cant really go back and compare prices years ago, like i maybe wrong but i think URS was selling womas and bhps before 97 when NSW came on board opening probably one of the largest potential markets in australia.Since then NSW has been filling up and things have slowed because its a very restricted market. The people i know all have m&f womas that wanted them,if they go down to class 1 in NSW that would give them a boost the same as bhps got for a while when they were put down to class 1 until that time bhps were dropping a bit.

oldfella, yes you are correct we were sell them before 97, URS has been in business for over 10 years and we have been keeping and breeding reptiles for a hell of a lot longer than that.

As for the price falling on reptiles yes it is and quite a lot when we look over our books and see what we use to purchase and sell reptiles for.
For instance back around 8 years ago we were selling male womas $2000, females around $3500+

You are more than correct when you say that a lot people have quite a few pairs of then now and this will drive the price a lot further down when they all start to breed then. There is a hell of a lot of them getting bred now and we are taking about 2 to 3 calls a week with breeder trying to sell them to us.

You will find that this is happening with just about all reptiles now. The only way to now keep the prices were they are is to get a lot of new people into Herp's and the only way I can see this happening is to allow a permit system for shops in NSW. I no that there is a lot of people that do not want this to happen but it will sooner rather than latter. NSW is the only main land state/territory not to allow it.

Regards URS
