I have been feeding my snakes quails for a few months now and found they took to them really well. I was conserned about the beak but none of mine have had a problem. I did find that a couple of my snakes had trouble getting their mouth around the wings. I now cut the wings off before feeding them to my snakes. Does anyone else cut wings off or had any problems with wings?

Hey Wendy,

I have been using japenese quails to supplement the diet of my aspidities for over 5 years now! I have several snakes that soley feed on quail (ie a rsp).

It matters little if you cut the wings off or not. Simply i buy numerous sizes and match it to the snake. The beauty of a quail farm is you can get them any age or size you want. I'v cut wings beaks, feet the lot, but it is not necessary in most cases!

However i'd still like to see a nutrient breakdown of the different sized chickens! I know what they are for quail and rats but have never seen it for chickens!

It's something we have been considering putting a student on at the Uni as so consumers know what they are getting and have some sort of comparison!

I still feed rodents but never in excess of 200g because after this stage rats begin to accumulate stored fat at a greater rate!

great to hear your snake's feeding again PK, and all the more praise to pythoness and her day old chickies hehehe

Want to try the day olds myself, am not entirely sure my snake's will take to them as they defiantly refuse chicken necks, but i guess trying the whole bird is worth a shot..

btw anyone in melbourne selling day old birds?? Have looked around but can't seem to find anyone

hey pythonrockchik, definately try to track some down all my snakes have full bellies because of them I've never tried mine on chicken necks although I have heard of that before, Its kinda odd watching your snakes try to navigate a chicken when they are used to rats its a bit like feeding for the first time again lol
