Hi all just wondering if someone could tell me what licence you need in QLD to keep a green tree python. I had a licence in NSW (not for GTP'S) and have found that the licencing structure is completely different here in QLD.
Can someone give me clarification please as I have found the EPA website confusing.
Thanks in advance.

As far as I know, here in QLD we only have one type of license which covers the basic reptiles. I dont think we have classes like in NSW (correct me if Im wrong).

In Qld you need Recreational Wildlife Licence under Nature Conservation Act 1994. Specified activities: keeping commercial, recreational and restricted reptiles.
Green pythons are 'restricted reptiles'.
There are some conditions attached to it - you have to read the document.
I hope this helps.

Beware! If you apply for International licence to keep your greens, you won't be allowed to breed and transfer such animals. The conditions are more or less the same as per exotic reptiles in NSW.

You can keep a maximum of 2 restricted reptiles on your basic recreational licence. Restricted pythons include womas and green pythons, so this means you can keep 2 greens or 2 womas or one of each before you need to amend your licence.
If you plan on breeding greens you will need to amend your licence to include international species, as far as i'm aware greens are the only reptile on the international list.

I should add, i recommend you phone the ranger who is in charge of your area to clarify any questions you may have regarding licencing. Don't ring the EPA office as you will get a different answer each time, you will have to ring them to get the rangers number though.

recreational licence then the upgrade is to restricted animals which lets you keep more than 2, which you either need 2 people who have that class licence to sign it of or do a reptile husbandry course

For an upgrade to be allowed to keep restricted non-venomous species you just have to send a letter to the EPA requesting and amendment on your licence to be permitted to keep more than 2 restricted non-venomous reptiles. It costs around $160 for the amendment. You do not need to do a husbandry course or get letters from specialist keepers if you are not wanting to keep vens.

I don't see any reason why you would need to include international species unless you intend to keep some. Aren't greens native? Frankly, I don't know anybody in Qld who would keep greens on a international licence whether they are native or not.
