I was wondering if anyone can tell me what the deal is with venomous snakes in qld.. do u need a different permit than the rec wildlife licence.. if so.. which one is it and can anyone tell me why the epa website is so dam hard to follow.. i typed in venomous snake licence and got no help wotsoever.. damn

Its my understanding you can keep any elapids or colubrids on a recreational licence, except for the listed species which are the "deadlies". To keep a highly venomous elapid you need to get 2 signatures and a more expensive licence i think.

You need a restricted license for elapids, for which you need to do a course Venomous Snake Handling Course - Brisbane
Usually a $200-300 to do a course and a $160 odd for the license

I'm pretty sure from when I asked that to be able to keep venomous snakes u need to hold a recreational liceance for at least 2 years and then complete a venomous snake handling course on which u pass and get two referals from saying that your capable of handling vens. And then u have to hope that they let u get it. It's a completely different liceance and will cost extra.
