I quarantine any new arrivals for at least 12 months, in the past i would quarantine for 6 months but now days with nasty diseases like opmv becoming more common i don't think 6 months is long enough.

Can some of you guys describe your quarantine procedures...obviously your basic hygiene stuff, but what about where you keep them. What do you do with multiple snakes coming into your collections etc...

This is an interesting topic..... I'm new to keeping snakes but haven't made an effort to quarantine any of my snakes cos all of them have come from reputable breeders....... Have followed the basic rule, which is don't handle the other snakes when u have handled the new one at least for that day.... I do use separated equipment but house them in the same area.... Well I guess that's the most I have done so far but please do correct me if there is something u think I might be doin wrong, or if there is something else u would like to add........

Thanks guys i have a female who has been in quarantine for 6 months now and I was originally going to keep her in there for 12 months due to OPMV,but due to the fact that a 12 month quaratine meant she would miss the breeding season i was having second thoughts about such a long quarantine..Just wanted to get some other keepers point of views on it and she will be staying in quarantine for 12months..Thanks for your input ..Better to be safe then sorry....

I keep her in the same room but use stricked hygeine...she is always the last snake i feed or do a change and clean up of...so that way I leave the room after i have been near her and do not go back near the other snakes.Ideally i would love to have her in a completely seperate room, but lack of room in the house doesn't allow me to do so.Any food that she refuses to eat is imediately disgarded

IMO you can't quarantine reptiles under the same roof, let alone the same room.

In regard to your other post about reputable breeders...... I have only ever bought from "them". I've had opmv in my collection, so always quarantine. I had a death (opmv) a couple of months ago and the last snake to enter my collection was almost 2 years ago.

I only have the 1 snake at the moment, but when I get more I'm going to keep them in a seperate room/spaced around the house so that they aren't close to each other. And not mix them up for a good 6 - 12 months just to be save with quarantine.
