Hi, I was once told by a experienced and old breeder that jungles were pretty much [ delete] when it came to feeding. I didn't know what he meant at the time but I'm starting to see. I have 1 palmeston jungle girl still a juvi and 2 fully grown athertons and they are all shocking eaters. For eg: my juvi girl will eat two weeks in a row, then for a couple of weeks she won't touch a thing, she's such a shocka. Same as my atherons once week there starving and then won't eat again for over a month (dosn't matter what u offer) than all of a sudden bang the'll eat again. Just wanted to see if anyone else has had this problem with there jungles (or did this guy just ginx me lol)

I heard the same thing when i started keeping jungles...they will only eat mice, and only white ones not coloured etc etc...they will only eat live etc etc
My adult pair were fed on chicken necks and wouldn't eat rats apparently. The first time i offered rats they snapped them up
I have a few others and they are all on rats now and they eat thawed ones that have been frozen for a month and they eat thawed mice as well any colour you like if i run out of rats.
Perservere and conquer!!!

yeah I realise there's a lot of old wives tails out there. But I have found my guys just arn't reagular eaters period. Nothing to do with mice, rats or colours just when I feed everyone else it's not very often they will eat to, drives me nuts and usually a waste of a feed.

Yeah I know what you mean. I have a yearling Jungle and she is such a fussy eater. You go in and give her a rat and she takes it, sometimes you offer her the second one and she won't take it other times she will, when she doesn't take it, then you come back an hour or so later, then she will take it other times she won't. All my other snakes take there food without fail, not only is it frustrating but it is a waste of a feed.
Cheers Glad some one else has this sort of problem, I was beginning to think I was the only one. LOL

Got my female jungle yearling on Saturday. The owner said she was fussy and the only way he could get her to eat was by placing her in an ice cream container (with air holes) overnight with the mouse. I tried to feed her in her new enclosure and she wouldn't eat so i tried the ice cream container and in the morning.....no mouse!

Atleast they're eating most of the time.
But that would be annoying..agreed.

There is some truth to the statement than the minature rain forest form of jungles prefer mice over rats. Having a fair amount of experience with wild caught jungles ,I know this to be true.

Glad to here I'm not the only one. I have found with my athertons that they will only eat from there branch when they do eat. But with my jungle juvi it just dosn't seem to matter. She'll never eat straight away no matter what I try and a lot of the time (not at all). At the moment when she does eat it's only very small pinki mice the minute I try and upgrade her to anything with hair (forget it). She's really starting to look like she needs more than 1 pinki but she just won't take any more than 1 if she even takes that.

All of my jungle hatchys bar 3 are eating pink rats or fully weaned mice. Dont keep touching them / handling and they will eat. Jungles would have to be the easiest australian snake to get feeding as youngsters. That snake was eating freshly killed fuzzys from the day it sloughed and has never refused a feed. Dont bother feeding pinkys, its a waste of a feed for a snake her age.
Leave it alone for a week or two, only touch it to change paper/ water ect. Try and feed it in a week or so and it will eat. Do you still have it in a small click clack?
