Not sure whether it applies to rabbits but I've heard that pinky anything has a substantially lower calcium content as the bones haven't fully formed. Just a thought

Calcium is easy to supplement but should be necessary if pinkies are fed for a few monthes. Just think of the wild. Snakes dont leave pinkies because they might be deficient in calcium. It all wevens out in the wash.

Yes i have heard of something similar to this, but it was concerning feeding guinea pigs and large rabbits to bigger snakes. The person suggested shaving the food items because a build up of fur could occur as the fur is indigestable. Your vet is not an idiot.

Interesting Wokka, so it looks like it does happen....well one case so far.... thats where supplementing the herps diet with other food items such as quails and 100gm rabbits occasionally benefits the herp in clearing the gut as well as nutrition. Nice one.
Goodo Tom...both introduced animals. Interesting.
anybody else?

Also remember that in certain isolated areas some individuals of a given species MAY spend most of the year feeding exclusively on the introduced rat, which does have co-a-r-s-e hair. As long as fresh water is always accessible then constipation is more easily avoided.

so can you feed your snakes eggs?
not as a main meal sort of thing, but as a source of protein?

Yeah for sure liasis, but we dont feed our herps native rats. These imported rats have courser fur then our native counterparts.

As far as I have seen/felt and know, all kangaroos and wallabies and possums also have soft for which also helps to make up a herps natural diet in Australia.

Course fur.
