RB BLACKSNAKE bites both my sisters dogs !

my sister has two bull terrier type dogs that where locked in
two seperate dog runs like this one

while she was having a BBQ,and a child went over to look at the dogs and noticed a black large black snake ripped in half in one of the dog runs.snake was about 6ft long in total
they checked the dogs and found them both to be biten and displaying symptoms of envenomation.
this is weird cause there property is fully cleared and the neighbours property is very bushy with a lot of wood piles and random rubbish,
but the snake has made its way from there and straight into two cages with dogs in them.
the dogs are at an emergancy animal hospital and the bill is going to be $1600 each dog.
what a suck situation for all involved ,ive always preached the good word of leaving the snakes alone as my brother in law fears them and is of the opinion that they should be flogged with a shovel if they come near the house.
couldnt really blame the dogs in this situation i feel sorry for them and my sister and her husband

If they had a proper barrier around the base the snake would have gone around instead of getting torn apart. Unfortunately of course its going to bite the dogs, they attacked it. Thats what dogs do and snakes aren't that bright.

but they where locked up
one dog is ok the other is still passing blood

As I said, put a barrier around the base of the enclosure. The snakes will tend to turn left or right and continue on their way than go over it. Gal sheet metal at about 400mm high. Not foolproof but will work 99.99% of the time and a lot cheaper than the vet bill.

Would've been good advice before this happened.. But probably still worthwhile to prevent it happening in future. Good luck to the dogs!

the neighbours have seen a few latley but there property is a much more suitable habitat,

That's a real nasty story! Got to feel for your brother-in-law though. I hope his dogs recover well.

I'm sorry to hear that this happened, hope the dogs are okay and glad the child didn't get bitten.

Geez that sucks! Poor dogs. Imagine if they weren't noticed until a few hours later and it was too late to try and save them.
Which area is this in?

What symptoms did the dogs have after the bites? and what type of dogs?

Not bring nasty but if my dog had been bitten by a snake and the vet told me the bill would be that much i would have to seriously think about having my dog put to sleep.

I think as they are a protected species the vet bill should be forwarded to the appropriate government body in your state
