Seriously, We can only assume that BG knows what he is doing, and I am glad he is alright.
And while on the same subject,
In the thread http://www.aussiepythons.com/index.p...highlight=rbbs it was stated that the RBBS bite can show symptons years later. Can you shed some light on this BG. |

Thats the first I have heard of it. Sounds something like the old recurring sores from Bluetounge Lizard bites stories we always hear about.
RBB can cause necrosus, as well as muscle fatigue as part of its venom breaks down proteins in mucsle tissue. These proteins cause your urine to redden, making you think you are passing blood. If enough proteins are striped from the muscles, these can lodge in the kidneys , causing renal problems.
I have in the past been left very weakened in limbs after Blacksnake bites due to the muscle deteriation. In some cases it has taken months to improve, but I have never heard of any symptons recurring years later |

Your telling me. I sometimes nearly have punchups with the doctors over the way they want to treat my bites. Trouble is you have intern doctors doing their stint in the IC units and most have never treated a snakebite before. It gives you lots of confidence when you see the doctors reading the Blue book manual on bites right beside your bed while your just lying there suffering. |

Up here (Tamworth) they have a guy very well trained in snake bite treatment and he gets called in wherever possible.

I bet Bob has some good stories about what problems can come from being bitten and the problems you are left with years later.. | And I will repaet "wrong attitude Browns"
Bob made a mistake and gor bitten. He could have taken precautions and not have been bitten.
I blame the warm weather myself. Expecting to be fed at this time of year.

I would have to agree. The warm weather I believe did trigger a feeding response that I was not expecting at 11.30PM on a Winter night. Believing the snake asleep and chilled I quickly used my hand to remove the droppings, rather than the scoop I normally use. This proved to be a mistake on my part. |

I have never been bitten by a ven(sorry I have been bitten by gts') and dont intend to be.
Having said that I have done exactly what Bob did on numerous occasions.
I know that the possibility is there and take precautions where ever possible. I have the advantage in most circumstances in that the elapids that come to me are wild caught(rescues) so I dont get complacent with them.(they are only held for short time due to injuries etc).
Red bellies are beguiling though. The settle in very quickly and start accepting food; thawed rats, mice and ckicks; almost straight away.
Its a possibility not an inevitability. The latter is reckless and irresponsible.
Peter

The hand is almost normal, but my kidneys are still a little sore and I was vomiting this morning. All in all though I am slowly improving |

My sister and mum called me an ambulance on saturday cause i scolded my arm with a pot of boiling water and it was a good call for them because if i didnt get it treated on the day i would be seeing a plastic surgeon as we speak. | | | |
