I'm not sure of distribution numbers for the magazine (therefore numbers printed), but you will find full colour magazines cost a small fortune to print - and have a look at the amount of colour in one of them. You will find that the cover price actually covers pretty much the printing cost and not much more.
Compare the cost of RA magazine to a popular monthly computer magazine, or even some of the trashy gossip magazines, VS the amount of ads (and the prices charged by the big mags for their ads), and you will find RA magazine is pretty darn good value for a such a specialised magazine.

I agree 'slightly' that design and layout could be a little improved, but all those other magazines have huge amounts of money and teams of graphic designers.

I say keep up the good work.

Now wheres my free subscription Simon?

I wander how the distribution trough news agencies work. Do they get approached by Magazine and given offer? If yes, That must be sort of difficult with so many outlet around the country. Do they have system that publisher can contact one body only and they all get the information?
I just wander about this.
Maybe some of them are not interested , because small customer base, and don't order magazine at all.

as a subscriber i await the magazines arrival eagerly... but in some ways i do have sympathy for those who have voiced concern for it's quality... the number of typos in each issue is getting lower, but there are still enough to bug me... (and being a school teacher i should be used to poor spelling)
Aside from this quibble i am very happy to spend my money on this product, and i will continue to support it in the future... i hope i one day have whole shelves devoted to it...
(and if any one has a spare copy of issue number one...well, i need it to have the whole set!)

LOL Jack regarding the spelling, you must be my fan.
Some people a part from me here on APS have horrible grammar. Some of them use the internet shortcut language, and I have no idea what they saying at all.
So I know how you guys reacting when reading my posts.

But humor a side, I would love to be able to use English language in proper way. My bad English skills are stopping me to post to forum more frequently.

The thing is, the mag needs subscriber support, and hopefully as more subscribers come on board it will get bigger and better. I agree at the moment it is probably a bit short on substance for the price, but I will continue to support it as I don't want to lose it! It is an Aussie publication about Aussie reptiles. Let's wait and see what the future will bring.

The Thick tail gecko piece I think was a good detailed work finished off with a wide range of animals some never seen before. I was hoping you would all have commented on the Chameleons of Madasgascar poster ....Any feedback on the poster would be great. Reptiles Australia is very young compared to other mags and has been a proven successful Australian product and is written by you Aussie writers, images from Aussie photographers and is printed in Australia by you for you. How lucky you guys are to have such a great friendly forum APS to turn to and discuss all things herps.........
Regarding the poster. I sat down to read it and got to the centre spread. Strange, I thought, no poster. I went to tell my son that it didn't look like this copy had one, because he likes to put them all straight on his bedroom wall.
It was already there. He loves it.

Subscriptions would appear to be the only way to ensure getting a copy unless previous complaints from subscribers are true in which case you get you copy well after its hit the shelf in a small number of newsagents.
It really needs to improve. The reliance on gratis submissions from the herp community for the bulk of its content is also a worry.
Comes down to the fact, if you want my money i want a bit of effort. I would not classify this as a flagship publication, more a mooring dinghy.
Dont get me started on the postman.

Don't know what magazine your reading but I think it has gotten better with every issue.
