QESTIONS?
1. How long should i give them in there new enclosures before handling them?(they will be kept separate)
2. How often can i handle them and for how long?
3. Should i feed them in their enclosure or in another container so they can tell the difference between handling time and feeding time?
any hints and tips please!!! |

1. A few days to a week to settle would be fine just visually monitor them regularily. Once they feed regularily it's a good sign thye are settling in
2. A question you'll get multipy responses to. But a few times week won't stress them. Again just monitor and incrrease or decrease by the signs you animal give you, and
3. Better to feed in a different container so they don't associate cage opening with fed time. Though depending of the size of your collection i have done both depending on how lazy i was at the time.
Though good questions, it will be good to see the varying reponses. As each keeper will have various idea's and that's what we are all here to do is share idea's
Bring on Tuesday can't wait to see them with ya

Handling a couple of times a week is a good idea although when handling you shouldn't be trying to control them just let them roam around you and check things out. Obviously if they are going somewhere the shouldn't then move them away. I don't personally see the harm in feeding in their enclosures as i handle my snakes more than they are fed so i (in my experiences) cant see why a snake would make that association, however alot of others do see their snakes having that mentality. So i guess if you find your snakes making that conection than you may want to start feeding out o9f their enclosures.
Have Fun, Enjoy and Good Luck.

Just let it explore its new home in peace and get used to the new surroundings. On the 3rd day (late arvo) place a thawed rodent in the enclosure and leave it.
In the morning, the rodent should be gone. Ive never had one not get eaten. After a few days (give the woma tine to digest) start taking it out for 5 minutes at a time, 2 to 3 times a day. It may be snappy at 1st but it will soon settle.
Then take it out 2 to 3 times a week for as long as the animal dosnt show signs of stress. If it happily explores and dosnt strike when its out, your doing fine.
If you feed once a week, take it out 3 times a week. Only feed the animal 25% or less times that you open the enclosure and it wont think its dinner time every time you open the glass.
Cheers Andy

2.) Depends, are they in shed mode, have the just fed, if this is the case, leave them alone, other than that, well it is a personal thing, I handle mine sometimes once a week, for betwenn 5 minutes to an hour
3.) Again this is a personal choice, I feed mine in their enclosures and have no problems at all.
Good luck.
