Scientific Name

i got a new coastal the other day,
and on the bit of paper they gave us it said the scientific name was morelia spilota variegata.
but i thought a coastal is morelia spilota mcdowelli.
??
i live in vic, so do carpets all go under the same scientific name?

Kind of wiggly. I've always called coastals variegata but that's because of the way NT naming convention is. Mcdowelli, variegata and spilota are all classed the same for licensing purposes.

Sorry not to be any help.

I had the exact same problem when I got my coastal, I put mcdowelli in the end, from what I understand, some books can be misleading here also, but technically I don't think you'd get in trouble although i would put mcdowelli if you are sure that is what it is.

Here in Vic, the DSE doesn't differenciate between the various subspecies of Carpets (except Bredli). They clump them all under M.s.variegata . So just for record keeping, put it down as M.s.variegata as it saves a lot of whinging and bitching by DSE if they come knocking on your door.
