Hi all, just a quick one for you. Is the Amethyst Python (Scrubby) now known as the Morelia kinghorni and not the Morelia amethystina?
Oh, and I have included a poll for your answers.

I think its one of those scientific name changes that occur from time to time just to confuse state wildlife authorities LOL. When I was younger it was amethystina but now the general consensus is kinghorni.

I would be inclined to side with what ever is in the latest edition of "the complete guide" .... thats the easy option...
There is of course those who would like the species removed from the genus completely.

Why do they have to go and change something that is not broken?

There is a paper by Dave Barker and friends who did analysis on this complex.
If I remember correctly they classify the Australian variant as kinghorni

But why is it called Kinghorni? Does anyone know? It just seems like it is a name completely seperate from what the species actually is. At least a lot of them have some meaning. I just can't find why it changed to Kinghorni.

As far as I understood it, the PNG ones are M. amythestina (Amethyst Python) and the Aus ones are M. kinghorni (Scrub Python). Correct me if I'm wrong .
Hence I put M. amethystina as you asked for Amethyst Python, not Scrubby
