Personally I would take him to the vet, you can't be too cautious IMO.

Bec, is there a reason why you feed him live prey? This should always be a last resort.

Good luck with your carpet.

Don't feed live.
Stick some betadine on the wound if its broken the skin.

It depends on how bad the bite is and where it is on the snake, rats can pack a really mean bite and there is a small chance it may need attention from a vet. Most likely some betadine or similar and keeping an eye on it will be fine.

To prevent this happening in the future kill the rodent immediately before feeding it to the snake. I would be suprised if the snake wouldnt go for a twitching meal.

that would work well a guy from work used to stun his guinea pigs then feed the snake as it would not take defrosted ones

People always forget live feeding is legal if the snake won't eat anything else - as is the case here.

But yeah, try fresh killed and just jiggle it by the tail in front of the snake - that way it smells live, is warm like a live one, and is wriggling like a live one.

As for the wound, it depends how bad it is and where it is? Gotta photo?

i dont know where you heard that! It's considered cruelty to animals feeding live animals to anything. The animal has to be humanly euthanaised before feeding it to another animal, for the rights of the feeder animal & the animal/s eating the feeder animal.

Or just hold it upside down by the tail and flick it very hard with you middle finger on the base of the skull...usually does the trick.

Not quite. It is illegal in all states and territories to feed live prey unless the python consistently refuses fresh killed or thawed.
