Hey anybody.
What size cage would you recommend for a baby Coastal Carpet Python?
I'm thinking if getting a big enough cage to last it it's whole life without getting an upgrade.

people say stick them in something little, but if they have plenty of tight hides, personally dont feel bad about getting a large enclosure early like a 5 x 2 x 2, my MD ha always been very placid after allowing him to settle in for a couple of weeks.

Coastals are quite arboreal, and so you would probably want it quite tall. So you could go with a 1200w x 1200h x 600d this would last it for its entire life.
But at this stage, it is probably much easier to just keep it in a small enclosure.
With a big enclosure and a small animal, you will have to ensure that you supply plenty of hides etc. With no where to hide (and i dont mean you have given it two hides) it could become stressed.
With a smaller enclosure this is easier to achieve.
i personally dont mind putting small snakes into large enclosures, but when i do there are a rediculous amount of hiding areas provided with fake rocks, fake logs, fake plants, so it is like a little jungle for it to get lost in.

As far as enclosures go (as in real enclosures) you will only have to buy one to last it its whole life. But it's commonly recommended that you start the little fella off in a tub of some description with a heatmat/cord under one side and water and a hde or two.
Personally I think it's fine to wack 'em in their large enclosure straight away as long as they have lots of hides, the right temps, access to water and some time to settle. I'm no expert though.

I got my coastals in plastic tubs in their enc, but soon I'll be letting them out. Once i got enough hides going. A little tip also if you don't want to go and buy a heap of hides, the boxes the hides come in, they make great hides themselves. Buy two hides, cut each hide box in half then you got six.
