Snake tracking

Hi all.

I was watching a snake doco last night and a guy was researching WA Tiger snakes. He wanted to track them so he assist fed the snake a jelly ball with a transmitter inside it. Wouldn't that disrupt the digestion of the snake? Or be poohed out soon after?

I've seen transmitters injected under the skin before but never done like this.

Thanks

RE: Snake tracking

not sure but maybe its just a short term tracker... he poos it out when the docco is done? so then the guy gets his transmitter back.

Yeah well that crossed my mind Liberated but I'm pretty sure he mentioned that if he ever finds the snake again he will be able to recognise it due to the transmitter.

I'm not certain of that, but I got the sense it was a long-term thing.

Tracking

Some small tracking devices have small(very small) steel weights attached designed to be swallowed then sit on the bottom wall of the intestinal tract, if they are heavy (a few grams only) enough they can stay within the intestines fr up to 6- 12 months.
