Yea Neil,
like most, there are good one's and bad one's, although I must say that most settle down fairly well. I have seen many wild imbricatas - some are like long term captives that handle like a pet and there are others that want to rip you apart. you cant blame them as most people tend to greet them with a shovel.

Oi ! Wait in line Shermy! LOL!

I will PM a few people.
I have a few lines of enquiry that I am following up, looks fairly hopeful at the minute, I will let you know for sure, and maybe we can share the shipping costs and get a few in.

Westaussie, that is a nice coloured one isn't it? Haven't seen one with that much colour in it before, do you see a few like this one out there, or is it unusual?

Neil

That last pic is not a common colour form. The area that ihave found that form is under heavy pressure from development. In that area about 1 in 12 would show this colour variation - I have got a nice female like this that I am holding on to for breeding.

They are a great looking snake. I think they will have to get more popular. What about the smaller versions that are found on some island off the WA coast? What are they like?

There is a colony on St. Francis Island of Ceduna (I've mentioned this before, once or twice), the coloration of the only male I have seen was simular to the animal in the photo above. It was over 8 years old and was about 1.2 meters long. A very placid snake. The females get bigger.
I'm going to do a rush over to ceduna when there is warmer weather and see if I can land there. Apparently there are a lot of tigers on that island as well.

How do you know the snake's age? I went to Ceduna on December 4 2002 (no herping though) I would have liked to check out the island if I knew there were carpets on it. The tigers would be black, yes? I've never seen a tiger in SA, it would have been cool.

The animal had been in captivity for 8 years, so properly speaking I should have said the animal was at least 8 years.
Tigers are easy to see in SA if you know where to look. A walk along the murray generally yeilds a few brown tigers while the game reserves and bird nesting areas near the murray mouth will often show some blacks. A sunny day with the temp in the low 20s is generally best.
In general the island tigers are black while the mainlands are brown but , not surprisingly, you can find browns on islands and blacks on the mainland.

Ah, that makes sense now
Yeah, I'm sure they're not too hard to find, I've just never looked for tigers in SA.

For tigers in SA just go to K.I. Near the lighthouse is best. On a good day your lucky to not step on one.

Oh! I lie, I have seen a tiger in S.A.! I was on K.I. in February. Only caught a glimpse of it though, I saw it through the window of a moving bus. Great place, I'll have to go there sometime when I'm not on a field trip with 35 other people!

Stiffler, my friend has just got back to me. The SW carpet is still available and I've just sent him your email address. Let me know if you don't hear from him within a couple of days. Keep in mind he's in Melbourne, so you'll need permits etc.
