While feeding he insists on eating the mouse rump first. Ive read and heard that doing this could pay a hefty price... resulting in choking to death.
Firstly is this true and should I bee concerned??
Secondly. I just gave him a large mous and it took nearly 40 minutes to get it down, where as the last 5 he managed to scuff it down..again, rump first. The other 35 he occupied be smelling and looking for someware to start eating... the rump... always, he didnt even find the head.
I even took the mouse from him once to give it back again... same story.
Is my snake suicidal or just stupid?? ; )

I freaked the whole time but he was fine. As for head or bum first - I always offer head first but he often rearranges to suit himself. I'm sure they don't get a feedin manual in the wild so I'm presuming he knows what's best!!

One time My water python snuck up on me and grabbed the rat i was gunna use for my 3 metre carpet but was too big for him and he stayed on that thing for 31/2 hrs and gave up. He just opened wider and "backed off it" |

I assume it is because the scent is stronger there. If your worried about it, try popping the head open to expose some brain and more scent. Roy Pails does this with python hatchlings refusing to feed. |

Some snakes are just different one of my Chondro's almost always eats bottoms up and then another that coils his food for hours before eating it(timed him once at over 3 hours)The same snakes wont eat his food unless it is very clean he's weird and if he wasn't such a nice guy and one heck of a good looking boy I'd of sent him packing years ago.
As for combing rat hair ?? well if that's what it took to get this guy to eat lol
This is the weird one,,There is a story to this photo, kind of funny and kind if sad as well. Randy |
