Does anyone use vitamin or other type of supplements for their snakes? I would assume you add to the water or to the food. If so, what do you use and is it really warranted?
I was looking through some posts on a US forum and it seems some of them were using vitamin supplements. Maybe yank snakes need them but not our tough Aussie snakes!
Went to the Vet the other day and she told me that until snakes are on adult mice or rats they're not going to get all the suppliments they need. She said that it's best to add some calcium and other vitamins, especially when they're on pinky rats and mice because there's hardly any nutritional goodness in them. So until mine are onto adults i'm using a vitamin spray with added calcium to put on every second feed until they're onto adult creatures. I figured it probably couldn't hurt at any rate as long as i don't over expose them too it and give them masses of it.
Does anyone else find this necessary? It seems most don't.

No they didn't sell me anything! they just recommended it. I can see the logic in it (they mostly just fluids and stuff really). Bigger rats are naturally going to be more nutritious with more bone mass and hair etc. I haven't heard of anyone else needing to supplement vitamins but i'm willing to give it a go.
The Vet is a really good reptile Vet apparantly so i guess it's the scientific view versus snake keeping experience. Both sides are interesting and i guess noone's right or wrong (everyone on here has such dif views... and such beautiful snakes!). I'm still learning though so maybe i got jipped or maybe i made a good decision! Only time shall tell!
