Smile Surprise

I have been a bit worried about my female spotted python over the past month or so. She has not been eating very well and appeared very sluggish. In fact she has only eaten once since my other snakes started feeding at the start of September. She has been in with a male for the past ten or so months but I didn't expect them to breed s she is only approximately 2 1/2 and I assumed she was too young and small to breed. As you can probably guess I was quite surprised to find this (see picture) when I opened the enclosure to check on her last night. Now I am in a bit of a predicament as this is my first ever clutch and I wasn't really prepared for this. I have quickly made an incubator out of an old esky with some heat cord and a thermostat to control the temps. I have some containers with vermiculite (only stuff I could find was in Bunnings, hope this is ok) in them. The problem that I now have is that the female is constantly wrapped around the eggs and when I attempt to remove them she coils tighter around them making it virtually impossible to retrieve them. Is there any trick to getting the eggs? Am I doing the right things? Should I leave the eggs where they are? Any advice on this subject would be greatly apprecieated.

Cheers

Harry

Lucky dude!!! If you can't get her off them safely just make sure her enclosure is the right temp.

If she hasn't laid the clutch right right under a basking or right in the warm spot, you can probably wait till she moves off to bask and grab the eggs then. JMO though.

Hi Harry,
If you find she doesn't want to move off them, then carefully place a towel over her and then slowly unwind her from the coil. That's how I got my woma's and jungles from their mothers.
Good luck! Great supprise too! You must be happy, merry xmas.
Cheers,
S.P.

I got her off them last night and moved the eggs to the vermiculite inside the incubator. The eggs were all stuck together and I wasn't able to seperate them, so I put them all in together. Hope this is alright???
Cheers

They still look ok. Doesn't mean that they are though. I don't think any are or have gone bad yet. Some of the small wrinkles/creases that were on 2 or 3 of the eggs are really starting to iron themselves out, hopefully this means that the pythonlings are growing inside and no just a build up of rotten gas.
