Would it then be fair to say that Diamonds and or Coastals seem to have a reputation for being reasonably placid..
If so which is the most placid or is another species the more placid ???
Your opinions please.

...but as will inevitably come up, each snake is different...

The most placid pair we own are the Olives although I've heard a demon Olive is a force to be reckoned with |

in my experience, my scrub pythons are the worse. Bredli is the best.
Many are bitey, but it's not a temperment issue, but just because it's a feeding response, my jungles are like this, just very responsive because they want to eat. the scrubs are different though, they try and hunt me down to kill me. |

Personally i haven't had any problems with "snappy" snakes, including my gorgeous water pythons. I was even warned that they would be snappy and I haven't had a single bite yet! got a quick bite from my bredli the other night though, she missed her mouse and got my finger instead but in general all of my snakes are extremely placid.
I hear lots of stories of snappy snakes, but when you see them they are very placid. A mate of mine works at a pet store, and last week someone brought a coastal in to him, complaining that it was very snappy and wouldn't calm down, and gave it to him. He was one of the most placid snakes we had ever seen... |

If a python doesn't want to be handled and the keeper always gives up and leaved it alone as soon as it get aggressive, it will learn that behavior as a response to unwanted handling and will be an aggressive snake. Conversely if they get no response from a bite it will generally settle down.
I know they are instinctive animals but I believe even the most primitive of animals will learn when something just doesn't work. | | | |
