The places we find snakes

My son showed me a snake he found.
I don't know type and would be happy to hear guesses. I couldn't get a graet photo because it was up a cliff and was real difficult to even get to to take a photo.
This is a beach, sand below, high tide would probably almost touch the foot of the cliff directly below this snake. Cliff face faces nth west.
Feel free to put up strange places that you have foung herps.
This animal I guess would be in the four to five foot range.

National Park on the Central Coast.
