Three sets of Twins

My girlfriend in Victoria is gloating big time her coastal eggs hatched yesterday and to her amazement she had 3 sets of twins hatch as well.Has anyone else had twins in the clutch before? The babies are smaller than the others but very healthy, ive never heard of twins hatching and had to gloat for her on here as you can imagine shes one happy lady.Out of 27 eggs that hatched shes got 30 babies im waiting for some pics so I can show you all.
Cheers Odie

That's a twist on the old "don't count your eggs before they hatch!" Three sets of twins in one clutch does sound abnormal though.

In vol 3 issue 3 of Reptiles Australia theres an article on 5 sets of olive python twins being hatched from the one clutch at Alice Springs Reptile Centre, theres was also another 2 sets that failed to go full term. Would certainly be a very welcome surprise!

Some years ago I had twin diamonds hatch, they were the size of earth worms, 12 and 13 grams. Both started feeding and were fine.

I had a clutch of jungles that had 4 sets of identical twins and one set of identical triplets.

Twinning is fairly common in carpets, multiple sets in one clutch is not common.

I am only aware of 4 occurences of triplets and in every case some of the babies died. In my clutch one of the triplets became tangled in the umbilicus and strangled itself while trying to leave the egg. The other two are fine, with one of the being extemely small. In fact even after eating over 20 meals it is still a little smaller than a normal hatchling carpet.

Naww, that's amazing. Did the eggs look any different to the others before they hatched?
