Time between sheds.

Howdy,

I have a childrens python. He seems happy and healthy but there is one thing that makes me wonder.

When is he going to shed?

I got him on the 16th of september. I'm not sure when he shed before that, but I'm still waiting.
His eyes aren't milky.

Any ideas?

How old is he, and how much have you been feeding him?

He's about 2 I'm guessing. I was feeding him two pinkies a week before. Now I know he's supposed to have a fully grown mouse, I'll be giving him one of those a week.
He last ate Thursday last week.

September is nothing to worry about, if he has been on pinkies I doubt he will be shedding regularly, bump up the food size and he should shed soon enough.

It won't be long

If it's eyes have gone milky you won't have long to go.
Under normal conditions they shed about seven to ten days after the eyes have gone opaque.
Giving the snake a daily spraying to wet it's skin and give it a touch of extra humidity might be helpful at this point.

oops

Sorry, I misread your first post. His eyes AREN'T milky yet.

Yeah, feeding him larger food items does sound in order.

He's 2 and eating pinkies ? I'm assuming you mean pink rats ? If you mean pink mice that is like eating one sandwich a week. A 2 year old should easily be able to eat weaned rats.

Yeah, I realise that now. He made his way through an adult mouse the other day. I under estimated the little fella. I got told to to feed him food that was 1.5 the size of his head. Thats the size of a pinky. But he'd always finish one and withing 2 minutes be looking for another. Now he's on the adults we'll see how we go.
Cheers for the help.
