Toomanyquestions

Hello APS,

I am new to this site - just joining today. I have been lurking in the shadows for a while getting a grasp for how this site works.

I have been keeping various reptiles for over ten years now and have finally decided it's time to give breeding a try.

I have recently aquired a mate for my female Bredli but I'm not sure whether they have bred or will breed. They have both been cooled and are in great health. I have observed the male lying on top of the female but have not witnessed any actual copulation. The majority of the time the male retreats to his hide box?

Any suggestions on how I could get these snakes to breed.

Thanks in advance

Dave (Toomanyquestions)

If possible try another males shed skin or hide box maybe even the other male itself and combat them.

I have thought of that, but the problem is that I only own 2 other snakes and they are both females.

If the male is interested should have his hemipenes out? I have noticed that the female's vent is open when he is on top of her.

Sounds like the female is keen, she should keep releasing feremones in order to stimulate the male.I'd keep them together for awhile and see what happens. Then maybe seperate for a few days before reintroducing. It may also be possible for copulation to occur while you are not there to witness it (after dark while your asleep). Many Bredli have been known to be secretive breeders.

RR is spot on.
I reckon they could have even already copulated and you haven't noticed.
Alot of action happens at night you know! LOL!

Keep us informed, and post pic's if you can, I Love Bredli.

Thanks everyone, I'll keep an eye out and be sure to take photos if I catch them doing the dirty.

Maybe the male is a little secretive - feels as though he is the leading act in a peep show and can't perform under all the pressure.

The enclosure is in a nice quite spot though. I don't think me disturbing him should be much of a prob.

Thanks again.

Hi everyone,

I've since seen my pair mating several times and the male has constantly got his spurs poking out. Is there any way of telling if my female is pregnant? When should I expect to see her sunning her belly.

I have a hide box in her enclosure. I have not once seen her in there since I've had her ---- She is now using it!! Would changes in behaviour such as this indicate a gravid female.

I've found female pythons will start lying belly up anywhere from 5 days before ovulating to a couple of weeks before laying. Some won't do it at all.
