Twins

Here's a photo of twin BHP's bred by Paul Harris. I love twins and seeing these little beauties coming out of one egg would have been very exciting.

RE: Twins

That would have been a pleasant surprise!!

Would that make them genetically identical or not necessarily??

RE: Twins

Wow! They look gorgeous

I believe they would be identical. The only way you could get 2 in one egg was for the cells to divide into two which would create an exact copy of the original. They call it mitosis or meiosis - one of them but they both do the same thing.

With reptiles it normally means two ovum being calcified within the one shell - not the normal one egg splitting as per mammals.

a few silly question's

Would the single egg they hatched out of be larger then the rest of the clutch due to the fact of it containing two snake's insted of one?

And are they the same size as the rest of the hatchling's or are they smaller because they were in the egg together?

sorry for all the question's im just getting some more knowledge
cheers scotchbo

That's right Junglepython2 - just the normal sibling relationship not identical.

Never seen one in person but would assume it would be bigger?

I have a Tully Jungle that was a twin and they were tiny, even smaller than normal Tully's when hatched, from what I remember the egg was apparently about the same size but I could be wrong. I will ask my friend who bred them.
