Question Unusual feeding behaviour

Just popped a pinki for our childreni. He grabbed it very quickly and really squeezed. Appeard to try and start swallowing. Now he's poking his nose all around it. Still wrapped around it. Poking his nose into it like he's looking for something. No tongue action. Seems a little agitated. Pinkie on the large size but not too big. Anyone seen this before??

He has completely squished this pinkie!!!

Could be he has pinkie juice all over him and doesn't know where the pinkie ends and he starts? Any ideas?

Sorry, I erroneously used the term "popped". Didn't juice it.

He dragged it to a corner of his click clack leaving a trail of pinkie gizzard. He seemed still agitated so I took it a away from him then dangled it head first so he could grab it again. He went at very quickly again and is now swallowing it normally.

Thanks for the replies. Appears you were right cris.

When you defrosted the pinkie, did you put it in luke warm water? Because I found that sometimes if I left the pinkie in the luke warm water for too long, it'd become really soft and when ziggy coiled it, the pinkie gazzrd as you put it would go everywhere.. and then she'd just look at it.. so I'd take it off her, do a new pinkie that wasn't so soft and she'd take it right away.

My defrosting technique is this (please tear it to bits if it's no good)

Get frozen pinkie.
Put in plastic bag.
Get very hot water from tap
Immerse platic bag in water
Wait about 5 minutes
Extract pinkie from bag
It's pretty dry anyway but dry it in paper towel.
Present to snake when cooled a little.
Pinkie is still warm.

I get the feeling you are right about softening the pinkie up. Maybe I'm nearly cooking it.

Don't use Very Hot Water... Just use luke warm water with the pinkie in a plastic bag.. Run it over the bag, this will help defrost the pinkie and make it slightly warm for the snake.

The hot water is what makes the pinkie turn into moosh.. Then the pinkie gets ripped apart when the snake coils around it.. That's how I learnt my lesson.

What I do is..

Whenever I get pinkies, I always serpate them into little clip bags, then when it's feeding day all I do is:

1. Find a nice sized pinkie
2. Run the tap till it's luke warm temperature
3. Hold the pinkie in the clip bag under the tap (Or add the luke warm water to a bowl) and let the pinkie sit in it there..
4. Feel the pinkie to see if it's still frozen, or at a good temperature for feeding
5. Get my feeding tweezers, get out the pinkie - pat it dry with paper towel
6. Feed to Ziggy
7. Watch her enjoy her meal
