There was yearling male womas for $1000ea on reptilesdownunder a while back, tanamis, were good looking snakes as well.
I've been saying for the last few years that the price of womas is going to drop very quick and it's starting to happen. This has been the major reason why i haven't brought any womas....plus i kept buying BHPs
I don't know about anyone else but i've seen more adult pairs and sub adult pairs of womas for sale in the last 6 months than i've ever seen.
The more prices come down the better i think, then all these great snakes are within reach of every herper.

I think the $1000 womas are certainly not commonplace and I can see no real evidence that quality womas or BHP's are dropping that much in price and anyway how can you say for a couple of years that the price will drop quickly and it's starting to happen, isn't that quite a slow drop ? :-)

I believe that womas will drop to around BHP prices, maybe less. I think the people paying the high prices were people wanting to breed them. The average person is not going to pay $2k for a snake. Once the breeders have their snakes the list of people paying those high prices will drop, big time. They breed easier than BHP's and have larger clutches on the whole. So no doubt the price will drop. Plus when all those breeding pairs come on line from the last 5 years, can anyone say glut?

I've been waiting for them to drop for the last couple of years was what i ment.
I've seen heaps of yearling male tanamis for $1200 lately, not to metion the adult pairs of tanamis and ulurus for around $4700 -$5000.
It's taken longer for BHPs to drop because they are harder to breed and when you have people with 40+ womas eggs in their incubators then you can see why the price will drop, they have been bred in those numbers for a few years and the prices are now starting to go down.

About 10 years ago people were saying because GTP's were starting to appear on the market and quite a few were being grown on that in say 5 or 6 years because they are not difficult to breed and have pretty good sized clutches the price should drop quickly. 10 years ago hatchlings were $5000 now we see them going for $9800.

My two cents on the issue is this.
As has already been mentioned by myself and others, you will always be able to find woma's cheaply, but alot are pretty average looking animals, I will always pay more for quality.
Also, there seems to have been a glut of excess males which has brought their price down to round the $1000-$1200 mark, but lone females will still get $2500+, so lets say that's $3500 for a pair bought separately, not alot less than the $4000 a pair they have obtained regularly for some years.
I reckon $4700-$5k for a subadult -adult pair is fair depending on what they look like.
I believe that the price has dropped a little, but not for females, just males!
I also believe and in fact know in a few cases, that sub-adult/adult womas have been sold to facilitate buying other higher value animals including GTP's and albino darwins.
I also believe that womas should really become a class 1 species due to the ease of which they can be kept, easier and more manageable then BHP's in my opinion. Maybe if Jeff Hardy is reading this he could give his opinion on the possiblity of woma's making the class 1 list?

Stats on NSW returns tell the story,68 kepers and 395 womas,so thats about 5 each and the main buyers are breeders.Gtps 21 keepers and 111 animals which is also average 5 each but those breeders producing young have a market in a majority of class 2 breeders without them, its the would be potential breeders of animals that pay the big bucks as stiffler and duggabugs stated. The NT womas pair that ultimate sold a while ago must of had severe brain damage two heads and dog ugly looks or ultimate is a major buyer and seller and can gauge the market place accordingly. |

My thoughts is that yes there are more animals woma and bhps being bred but think the concept of keeping a snake or lizard far more acceptable than 10 years ago. My guess is that there are more people keeping reptiles than ever before in australia. I can see a lot of people getting into keeping reptiles as an intrest I have had friend express interest in keeping a spotted if I can get mine to breed in the coming season.
To say the usual outcome it is supply and demand
