| | | Hey Damo, I am in the Perth area too. Do you have your reptile license yet? You can go here http://www.calm.wa.gov.au/plants_ani...les/index.html
to print the application form, which you have to fill out and send to CALM. If you wanna get some experience to go for a higher category license then it may help to do the Reptile & Frog Care course at Swan TAFE in Bentley. The course runs over 2 Wednesday nights at the TAFE and one Saturday at the Armadale Reptile Centre. The Armadale Reptile Centre also runs their own private courses in the keeping of different reptiles, and you get a certificate at the end, so that should help. I did the python care course there, which helped me get my cat3 license. To get a cat2 and 3 license is pretty easy, it doesn't require much experience. You can also order reptile food from the Armadale Reptile Centre. You should go there and talk to them or ring them on (0 9399 6927 and make a booking to do the course.
To this moment the only place I have seen selling reptiles is the Bird & Fish Place in Wattle Grove, on the corner of Lewis Rd and Welshpool Rd. You can phone em on (0 9453 6044, or email them at birdplace@iinet.net.au
They have a pretty good selection of equipment but hardly any reptiles at this stage. Last time I was there, they had a few baby frill neck lizards, black headed monitors, lots of ridge tailed monitors, and lots of green tree frogs. They are very expensive. I suggest you learn how to make your own enclosures, it will save a fortune.
In a few months the West Australian Reptile Park opens. It's in the swan valley. I'm gonna see if I can do some volunteer work there when it opens to get more experience, so I can go for a cat4. You should do the same.
If I find out anything else I will keep you posted mate. Good luck. |

| | | I forgot to give you the website for the Armadale Reptile Centre. http://www.armadalereptilecentre.com.au/index.html
That site hasn't been updated for a long time. The Armadale Reptile Centre is always improving, and they have a lot more there now than what they did a few years ago. |

I am a reptile handler for the West Australian Reptile Park in the swan valley & I also worked with Klaas down there at armadale a few years back. Maybe we have met before, did ya ever drop in and see my display at Whiteman Park ?
"Bird & fish place" in wattle grove & "Exotics" on sacrborough beach rd Both have their dealers licence - Conrad at "Creepy Critters" in Girrawheen will be licensed soon & you will find more getting into it when the animals become available.
At the moment these pet shops are importing a few lizards from over east, but need to access pythons & other west australian herps locally. Only one license to take from the wild has been issued - which puts me under a bit of pressure ! As you can imagine, its not the best time of year to be herpin or breeding ..... (reptiles that is !)
If you wanna do some volunteer work W.A.R.P contact me from my website - www.westaussiereptiles.com.au

| | | | westaussie I am the guy you were talking to in the chatroom about me getting a carpet python from you. I decided I will probably not get a carpet python at this stage due to the cost. I will wait a few years for the price to come down a bit. Until then I will be very keen on getting some bearded dragons, frillies, gecko's and skinks though, so let me know when your store opens! I didn't get to see your display at whiteman park, but I certainly would have if I had known about it. I am gonna go check out those other stores that you mentioned. Can you tell us when the reptile park opens to the public, when you find out. Keep us posted.
Thanks |

Last I heard, He was madly trying to get everything sorted so he wouldn't lose any of his species that are not on the new licencing lists. I take it you are the only person issued with a collecting licence so far? I know it's nothing to do with you (it's CALM's decission) but do you know why they are not letting you guys keep the Barroni's? Seems crazy to me.

Also as a little aside I have a dual sensing thermometer and hygrometer which is great as you can have it in a fixed spot and monotir the hot and cool end at the same time. Saves a lot of stuffing around.

| | | | W.A Herpers Hi Guys
Just thought I would introduce myself to the class.
My name is Lee and I live in the northern suburbs of Perth, I have been involved with reptiles for about 25 years (gee that makes me sound old)
I went to live in England when I was sixteen which allowed me to pursue my interest in reptiles (there is no licence system in place except for venemous reptiles)
I have been lucky enough to keep and on occasions breed many of the more popular species of reptiles including many of the commonly available aussie species.
It is great that we can now keep reptiles in the west and I look forward to establishing a new reptile collection (much to my wifes despair) I have tended to be more of a snake person in the past but have designs on some lizard species.
Anyway I look forward to speaking with other members and sharing knowledge on this great hobby
Regards

| | | | Hi Brodie, Morelia Man
Have already started on the collection, have obtained 3 yearling N.T Frillies
all of the other species I would like to keep are either not available yet or not on our list.
You are right about prices, when I saw what reptiles generally sell for here I nearly got a nose bleed.
Reptiles in Europe are so cheap in comparrison, how would you like a green tree python, any indonesion sub species for about $400.00 (captive bred) or yearling spotteds/childrens/stimsons for about $90.00
I have been told if I want Stimsons I will need to part with about $800.00!
Still, I didn't think I would be able to keep reptiles when I moved back to Perth so I am not complaining, even though I didn't think I would have any use for them, for some strange reason I packed and shipped over a lot of my reptile equipment.
Regards
