Generally speaking the most commonly excepted variations are as follows
Grafton Carpets from Coffs to Tweed River
Brisbane Carpets from Tweed to the Rockhamption area
Proserpines from the Mackay area to Ingham
Cairns Carpets from Cardwell to Port Douglas
Cape York Carpets from the Western slopes of the Athertons to the top of Cape York
Within each area there is a huge variation of colour and patterns, but they still seem to share a common look. As for size, the larger variations are the Grafton(probably to second longest) and the Brisbanes(the longest) True Blue on this site has rescued some absolute monsters from the Nambour area. Proserpines normally max out at 6.5 to 7 ft , but are very stocky.
Proserpines are just a colour variation, and are definately not a natural intergrade with Jungles. They occur no where near each other. Natural intergrades do occur between Cairns Carpets and Jungles many hundreds of klm,s north of the proserpine ranges.
Anyone who keeps Proserpines will varify they have a gentle nature and I personally have found them to be the most docile on average, out of all the Coastal Carpets. | | | |
