Im looking to get a new snake, and i really love the patterns on jungle pythons so they are my main choice.
I currently have a 10 month old coastal who is very very good to handle, has never biten or even attempted to strike, and even when i hold the pinky in my hand, he will never get close to my fingers.
My parents love him, and also want to get anotehr python, but ive heard jungles have bad temprements.
Will this reduce if I get a hatchling and handle regulary, or will they always grow to be a agressive snake, like i will exspect to be bitten a few times in the biggening, but i would hope they settle down after time
I dont want to have a snake that i cant handle when its 5 - 6 foot, and i know with my coastal carpet it will be no problem handling at that size.
Heres a photo of my coastal i took a few months ago, his had a shed since then and now has very nice patterns.

With jungles most seem to be snappy at first, they usually start to grow out of it after a few months and with a bit of handling. Although you will always get the line or the odd one that is just pyscho. I've had jungle adults that are pussy cats and another pair I sold last year had to be handled wearing leather gloves.

Thanks for that Nev, how big can jungles get? are females more agressive then males?, and are they good feeders / easy to look after, or are they fussy

The B&G jungles don't get all that big though the atherton jungles can easily get over 2m.
I find jungles are more fussy then coastals but it does depend on the snake as does the handling issue. I find females are more aggressive then males, but this is a big generality and I havn't owned enough to to say that with any certainty.

jungles are great, i got my first pair a couple of weeks ago, but im happy, they are snappy but you'll get over that when you get them home and see how fantastic they look, as said they settle with handling but some will always stay snappy. mine are very snappy now but when they are settled in and feeding well i will handle them and tame them right down, black and yellows/golds average 5ft but some stay 4-4.5ft, the smaller the better imo.

i have read that a lot of snakes, jungles included, that they can be enclosure protective. a lot of people have issues with them being snappy inside their enclosures but once out are very good to handle. This is ony going off what i have read and i'd say has a lot more to do with the individual snake than anything else

Hey woody, I recently got 3 jungle hatchies. 2 Female athertons and 1 male of unknown locality but is from black and gold parents, already starting colour up so I hoping he turns into a stunner.
I got the full spectrum of temprements, 1 of the females is a pussy cat, never even looks like striking, the other female, completely pyscho, will attack anything that moves too close, I guess she probably isn't the worst as I have heard of ones that strike at any movement no matter how close or far away it is. The male is right in between, has never struck at me but you can tell that sometimes he is sizing you up for a shot, thankfully he has never done it so I am confident that I will be able to tame him.
It really does just depend on the snake, buy local and have a test handle while they are still with the breeder, that way you can see what they are like when they are stress free, at home within the first couple of weeks there is a good chance you have not seen the real personality yet.
