RE: Re: Who here has kept scrubbies?

A HUGE thankyou to all who have replied (esp to Nome who must have sat and typed for half an hour!! ) We're determined to handle ours whenever viable (which is the main reason we haven't bought two, just the one... we simply don't have the time to handle too many more snappy ones!) so as to hopefully have handleable adults. Still, as Krusty has pointed out, it's possible!

Well, we just picked him/her up then, and will get some pics up tonight. We both look very forward to being able to watch this baby giant grow

Cheers (and many thanks),
Austy.

RE: Re: Who here has kept scrubbies?

Soon enough i will be able to get my class two license. I will be getting a pair or trio of scrub python hatchlings. I allready have a nice big enclosure for them that currently houses my not so friendly adult female olive python. She loves the enclosure though so when i move her it will have to be a nice big enclosure also.

RE: Re: Who here has kept scrubbies?

Whilst in the past I've thought it foolish of some to have a snake of this breed in their possession, I've relaxed a little and circum to the fact they are definately a stunning animal worthy of a second look by any knowledgable snake enthusist to house and rear. I do know of a keeper here in Melbourne who is in possession of a 5mtr specimen and in all seriousness, the sheer size of an animal of this magnitude requires plenty of thought! No doubt its the only Australian python associated with a death in this country! A Beautiful snake, but buyer beware IMO!

Hey Chill, it's always nice to have a play with sooo many critters It's interesting to hear people's experiences with a somewhat uncommon captive animal

Thanks to everyone who's replied (and a huge thanks to elapid68 for his comprehensive feeding, weight and slough records!!!), and for the photos. I'd have to say, they're one of the most, if not the most (IMO) impressive looking adult snake in Australia.

Cheers,
Austy.
Yep you are right on impressive and pretty too have too get together and compare them will be interesting.

I was talking to my brother last night who's in Cairns and he told me of a neighbour who has had National Parks around a few times to remove an estimated 6 metre specimen (close to 100kg1) from his roof. Apparently he only found out it was there because it split the gyprock !! .Anyway, the removal was unsuccessful (too dangerous) so the story goes that Steve Erwin will be having a go on his way through from his latest trip to the Cape. The owner of the house has done a deal with the "Today Tonight " crew so keep your eyes peeled .

Cheers,

Varanus.

The latest media reports are now saying 60kg+ rather than 100kg.

Interesting to see how the story develops! 60kk , would that be big enough to worry your average Steve Irwin?
