| | Regular Member | | | | who would recommend a bhp?? a while ago i was tossing up between a woma and a bhp and i ended up going with the woma (and dont regret it all, he is great and will certainly be getting more ) as i was going to have limited space for enclosure and i was not too comfortable with owning a snake that grew to 2.5m. I have since seen a few bhps, fully grown and yearling, and the urge to own one has not left me and i am now not restricted with space.
Are they worth the space and the effort, i have heard they are just eating and pooing machines!! I think they are a beautiful animal and one love to own one but would hate to end up regretting it....
i would love some more experienced opinions, at the moment i am definitely leaning towards buying one, or a pair, soon.
Thanks,
Dave |

In the end, I got bhps first, womas second. I have to say that my female bhp is my favourite of all of my current collection and I would heartily recommend anyone to get a bhp :-)
As for being eating/pooing machines... no more than womas, in my experience! |

One thing, BHPs are very food oriented and if they are hungry can scare the pants off you if they think you are food
I find they urinate a lot more than they defecate. I have to change the substrate in my BHP enclosures every other day. They seem to grow very quickly also. Got a pair of SA womas that are small compared to my BHPs which are about the same age. I would say they eat about the same amount.

Start with the BHP....I got my diamonds first and love them to death but they don't even hold a candle to my BHP's.
Always wanted one and now want as many as I can get. they are placid (mine are anyway) they grow at a good rate but they are expensive on the initial forkout.....They also have a dietry need of rats that are not too big. I have been advised to only feed them a Medium Rat at the biggest as they have a fatty problem that kills the snake eventually. Someone correct if I am wrong please....Have also been advised not to feed anything that has not been frozen for less than a month minimum.
