how long have you been into reptiles? your parents might just need some time/conditioning, before they are ready to live with a snake.

When i lived with my mum she was used to it, she'd come home and find notes saying dont go in the bathroom! or becareful where you tread one of them has pushed the lid off the enclosure!.

She wasn't a big snake fan.

It will just take time, push but not to hard and you will get your way.

IF THAT FAILS, OR YOU CANT WAIT GET YOUR OWN HOUSE.

RE: Who

hi gilleni,
from what people have wrote on here, you aren't the only one, i'm 38 and up until 3 1/2 years ago i wasn't allowed to have a snake either, i live in my family home, so mum is still the boss, the way i got around it was to get mum interested in them, this took about 6 months of people letting her handle their quietest snakes, then she decided she had to have one, well 3 years later she has 15 of her own and i've got 6, as well as all our bluey's and bearded dragons, so don't worry, it happens to lots of people, just try to get someone that has some to ask her over and slowly show her that they aren't as bad as everybody thinks,

cheers,
steve..........

RE: Who

hi again,
and we even have a room just to keep them in, and if all this fails, you will just have to wait, but for now you could start saving up so when you can get one you will have the money there to get a nice enclosure and snake without waiting any longer, and maybe if you do save up you can use that to help your parents see that you really want one, but thats just my opinion,

cheers,
steve.........

RE: Who

hi,
i should tell you that i only wanted to get one when i was about 34, so i didn't have to wait that long, and i bought my first bluey within the first year after i decided i wanted to get one, lol, before my interest in reptiles i used to breed and show budgies and breed mice and rats, it was through selling my rodents to reptile owners that i got interested in reptiles,

cheers,
steve..........

RE: Who

Gilleni, try find a breeder or fellow keeper around your area who is willing to show your parents his animals and show them how harmless they really are.

RE: Who

so why cant you get one??? is it your mum or your dad?? ok this is what you do you get a list of reasons from your parents as to why you cant have a snake in the house... then you solve each of these problems... e.g my dad wouldnt let me put my beardy avairy next to the house... he said it would attract insects and mice and stuff.... i had to laugh at that... the dam beardies would eat them all... so that solved that one... my mum didnt want me to get a snake cos of what they eat... there was no way she was going to have mice living in the house... or even close to it.. so i found that what alotta people do is they just buy one or two mice a week (or however much they eat) defrost them and feed the snake. so that solved that one... i'm now allowed to get a snake when ever i want...
hope this helped and i didnt babble on too much

RE: Who

Crap, you are bad off, ask them to give you a good reason not to keep either, you'll be feeding them, they don't have to look at them, rats don't smell if kept clean, pythons are completely harmless, and offer to pay for the extra electricity.

RE: Who

The first time I wanted to keep a snake I was twelve, and my mother adamantly refused.

Of course, the snake I wanted was a Gaboon Viper. That might have had something to do with it.
