Hey all,
Having a mice epidemic at home and was curious if it would be ok to feed my python these mice? Or are they too risky for diseases? Was thinking that wild snakes eat wild mice? Or would it be best to get them from a trusted supplier? just curious to hear what you think, as i may be able to benefit from these critters entering my home?
Cheers Gav...

mate never feed wild mice in any circumstances.. it most probably will have some sort of diseas and its not worth the risk to your snake.. just get some rats/mice from a trusted supplier..

Wouldn't risk it, while freezing might knock out most of the parasites and disease, you only need one person in your area to be using posion and you may have a dead snake all to save a few dollars.

Gets rid of some of those pests at the same time too!!..... |

It is highly unlikely that any disease will pass from wild mice to reptiles. The main danger is the possibility of mice containing poison if they are suburban wild mice.

yeah very valid points, didnt want to go ahead without advice, and yeah being where i am god knows where they have been, i would rather go and spend 10bucks on a dead rat, than end up with a $350 dead snake.

a little off topic but would feeding WC rabbits be ok? In qld since we cant keep them it can be a pain to get large food items but i have heard of a few people trapping rabbits and using them as feeders

It all depends where you get them.
When i was living on a farm with a couple of hundred acres during hay season my carpet used to chow down on 5 or 6 at a time with no worries. 3 years on now and he is as healthy as ever.
BUT if i was ever to catch a mouse in my house now in Melbourne, i would not think twice about throwing it in to the bin.
