Womas to Class 1 Lic

I had a conversation last night with a bloke that had heard that womas would have been classified on class 1 licences by September this year. Obviously this hasn't happened but I was wondering if anyone has further info or ideas on this?

They should be on class 1 already, but from what i've heard, its not gonna happen. Which is ridiculous as they are probably the easiest Australian snake to keep and breed.

...eventually they will move them...

...but why would they re-do everything for the sake of one species...? I think if the major stakeholders put together a detailed report to NPWS detailing what species should be moved to where we would have a much better chance...having them make one large change is much more likely than every year two approaching them with minor changes - it won't happen that way...

I personally don't see the problem,if you can afford to buy a pair of Womas, you can afford the licence upgrade!!

That part may be true, but they should be available to beginners as their first snake. They have come down in price now so that most people can afford them.

it's not the price that is the issue. It is the fact that you have to be over 18 and have already had 2 years experience in keeping and being licenced for class 1 species.

All the money in the world can't buy you the 2 years you have to wait on a class 1 licence.

Considering you can own mildly venomous species on a class 1 license ie The red naped snake, swamp snake etc which are harder to look after, it seems stupid.

Thats because when they decided the licensing system these snakes spun up heads, unfortunately the Woma spun up tails

Powers to be are talking about the subject atm, these things take some time though, it's their rarity in the wild that is holding them back.

Smile re Womas

The NPWS needs some goodies like Womas and GTPs in the higher categary to bring in license fee revenue so they will probably stay there and there is the argument they have that womas are as scarce as rocking horse poo in the wild in NSW which is their main concern. The license system wasnt set up so that businesses in the private sector would flourish,it was set up so that it could be controlled, things dont get out of control when their on the higer cattagory license and slow down quickly fiscally when they hit a brick wall, thats the way it was intended and has worked well so far.(for them). This is the way Jeff Harder created the world as we know it in the NPWS licensing depatment.others have came from West Australian CALM and observed it before creating their own wonderful systems, behold they was happy! This is true Zulu, but I think they vastly under-estimated the amount of people who would be interested in keeping these slimy serpents when they created their world.
