Ide say in NSW that there would be heaps more licensees if it were a more open system, but then again it would be extremely difficult to police if it were more open with petshops and unrestricted advertising and such. The fact is,thats its not Decs concern whether Eddy or Joe can sell the backlog of womas they have, its not in their game plan.If reptiles and birds were in the control of a private board financed by pet suppliers things would move up and down expediently to there every whim. This isnt the case its government and things will move slowly and begrudgingly, its the way its always been,it took 20 to 25 years just to get a licensing system in place, thats how it works young grasshopper!

I believe only the Scrub Python should be on class 2. And possibly the Diamond python. All else class 1.

re Womas

Initially it was proposed that metclfei be placed on class 2,its the status of wild poipulations that concerns Dec,some of the species on class 2 is suspect cant see why little storrs monitors are on class 2 for eg,sure diamond pythons should have originally been on class 2 but its too late now and most are hybrids to some extent anyway.

Too true Zulu.
Be great though if they did put diamonds onto a class 2.All of a sudden all the questionable diamonds that come up for sale would miraculously turn into hybrids overnight!

If money isn't the issue, the way government departments work ,if you have your licence now then you will have 2 years experience before they even get around to looking at the issue.NPWS ,in my dealings with them are very slow to do anything. It took over 3 months & 2 lost applications(even though they were faxed & received) about 25 phone calls, for my licence upgrade to be approved. So don't hold your breath for a resolution anytime soon.

Well, I have no idea as to whether womas will become class 1 reptiles in NSW, but I've been informed by someone in the QLD EPA that they are undertaking a review of the status of australian reptiles (whether that be all species, or just those with distributions ranging into QLD, I'm not sure). I've inferred, however, that this study is not of particular priority and will therefore be some time coming.

Said study could have a profound impact on keepers given that holders of a rec license are only permitted to keep 2 restricted reptiles.

Could be some interesting times ahead....
