Thanks for the wonderful comments everyone.
mrmikk, i use a canon EOS 40D and speedlight. Those photos were taken with a proper macro lens for getting close ups!!

Are you or your other half on a "bowhunting" forum? My husband is and he showed me those same photos (I think) last night on his forum - he reckons he just can't get away from snakes anywhere now. (Actually he's beginning to like them).
Anyway - lovely snake and fantastic pics. I'm jealous of your photographic skills!!!
