My Dad, the Man the Myth the Legend

well tonight my dad showed me some pictures after work i know he was a bit of a reptile freak when he was younger as he tells me stories about how he had red bellies in his room not even in cages and how he was given a diamond python to look after and all other amazing stories..

Also he had a pet kangaroo which he showed me and told me he use to take it everywhere.

His newspaper article (year 8- grade 2)

    His pet kangaroo

    and just the kangaroo

thought this was cool enough to share also tell us stories about cool things your dad did as a kid

Dad used to drag us to a friends house who we called "snake man" There were snakes everywhere, lizards, turtles, a croc int the pool and i think even fox pups. Everytime we went there there was something new, like a joey. We got into trouble alot too cos we would fearlessly stick our hands into a random enclosure.
I think his real name was Murray Wilknson or something.. I have a newspaper clipping somewhere with him holding a magpie and telling people to not try to catch or kill snakes, leave them alone etc.

Nice to have a dad like that! ......mines flippin' useless!! (I wish I could use better words to describe him, but I don't really want a holiday from APS right now ). It's so important to involve your kids in your passions (if it also interests them that is), and give them some knowledge to respect our fantastic wildlife! Thumbs up for your old man mate

Your Dad's the bomb, but I like mine too. Mine dropped a kitten of a cliff, when he was a kid, 'cause someone told him cats always land on their feet. Kitten landed on its feet but also sprayed gray matter everywhere. THE END.

    hehe thats heaps cool...
my mum was the animal person, she came from a farm...(that side of the family isnt too friendly with snakes though unfortunately...)
the closest animal thing my dad did was rode a sheep at a rodeo when he was really young.
(they stuck him on a sheep coz he was a city bum and they figured he couldnt really handle riding a bull).
...he still didnt last enough seconds on the sheep to qualify for a place, it bucked him off in like 2 seconds flat... haha,

My grandparents ( closest thing to real parents I've got) are the funniest.... My grandfather is the mr fixit who could fix everything with a nail, calking gun and a coathanger. But he is a dog person fullstop! not keen on other animals... My grandmother is unbelievable to say the least... Was declared a genius at 60!!! a walking encyclopeadia of general knowledge and an artist... Also an avid animal lover (she was who first got me interested inherps as a kid).

    Funny story invovling the 2.....

My Mormor (grandmother) has a penchant for helping any sick animal that she may find on the roadside (as a kid it meant the magic of having pet Kangaroos, emus, magpies....) but she once found an injured carpet python on the roadside and took it home to nurse it back to health - much to my Morfar's (grandfather) objection. a couple of months passed and the snake got healthy and morfar had also gotten sorta used to it (it had free reign of the house) until one day morfar sat on his recliner without first checking.... and got chomped on the ****!!!!
Needless to say the snake was released that day....
