feeder fish
i no its illegal to feed anything with a spine to a reptile, but then why are there feeder fish? because fish have spines... does that make it illegal?
and if they are accepted to the rule, why arent mice?
stupid question?
the thought just occured to me....

fish are excluded from most legislation regarded to animal cruelty because of the debate about whether or not fish actually feel pain. Its why a lot of fish breeders cxan get away with a lot of stuff without having to pass an ethics committee approval.

actually as far as i know feeding any live vertebrate is illegal, it does vary state to state so probably a few different rules. I'm not 100% sure so dont quote me on it.

I've been wandering about the legalities of feeder fish for a while too.
I have been told that it is legal as they supposedly dont feel pain, just as Serpant_Man said.
But i also know that is illegal to feed anyhting with a spine live.

i have had people try and tell me that reptiles don't feel pain either.
this is an interesting topic, feeding live fish, i think its inability to enforce has made the concept ambiguous.

Last time I read Fish and insects are exceptions to the rule.

you can always side step around the rule and just house the fish in the same enclosure and oops it got eaten....

I think they have to be legal to use otherwise you wouldn't be able to cook crab and crays alive - there goes the restaurant business.
The other thing is - if your fish breed - which often they do, unless they're a mouth brooder the chances are that the fry are eaten anyway. And in some cases even by their mummy and daddy
Give a man a fish and feed him for a day...
Teach a man to fish and feed him for a life time (or until fish become extinct, which ever occurs first)

Apparently fish have pain receptors.

yeah, i was thinking that they must be accepted to the rule, because at the pet shop they sell them under the title of "feeder fish" so they would be illegal otherwise. but if they are accepted to the rule, couldnt we just claim that mice dont have pain receptors? because i no from exsperience, that if the croc or turtle doesnt get the fish, the fish is quiet obviously stressed out.

and they are called FEEDER fish
