    Indecisive Parent

Anyone else sick of fighting with their mum about whether I can get another reptile? My mum always says I can get something, then when I mention it later she says "I never said you could get that" and it always ends with a shouting row between us. I always try to explain that she DID say I could get it but she starts getting angry then it ends with "FINE GET IT THEN!" which is stupid because she never actually does let me get it.
Then she asks why I would want one if I cant cuddle it, and I explain that its like an ormament, you look at it. In fact its better than an ornament as it moves and you can watch its amazing behavior. She is so shallow sometimes.
Anyone else got the same problem (eg. indecisive parent ) I know I may sound like a spoilt brat but it just frustrates me that she says I can get one then changes her mind at the drop of a hat.
Dont get me wrong, I love my mum and she is a lovely person, but she just frustrates me sometimes.

There is a saying, You dont catch Bees with vinegar(use hunni)Parents usually respond better to respect and kind words(I did say usually)
I can bet there are so many parents sick of arguing with their offspring ;-) keep a journal date and time when she says you CAN have one.
Give her breakfast in bed first ;-)
Guess what? People can be shallow, it is part of human nature I am afraid.

    Look mate,

Here is my advice to you....let her go for a while i understand that u want to get another reptile but if he has at one stage said yes then changes her mind at another time then just give her some time to come to terms with the idea of having more reptiles especially if its another snake lol cos alot of people are funny about it especially cos u have one already, i mean im 22 i have my own house with my kids and my mum comes here and so help me god if i get my Darwin out while she is here she would murder me lol......

So yes my advice is just to leave the subject alone for a little while
i have 11 Family Members 5 Of which are Human and 5 are My adpoted babies Ayva and Little Mr (DCP), Charlie (MD), Ziggy (IBD), Penny (PCP) and Bindi (English Staffy) My collection Keeps Growing

At the end of the day what your parents say go's. I was allowed lizards but not snakes when I lived at home, I respected that decision and never pushed it. Remember your parents are raising you and supporting you, shouldn't you show them some respect and just be happy with what you've got? With the way electricity prices etc are going, they may be worried financially with increases new additions may add.

Next time she says you can get whatever get it then and there rather than waiting if you can

Write up an agreement.. Outline how you will look after it, how often you'll feed it, how you'll pay for it, etc, then get her to sign it. So next time you can show her & say that she did agree to it, so she cant get angry at you

Don't forget you're living under their roof. You should consider yourself lucky your parents even let you keep reptiles, when I lived with my grandparents, they said I would have to move out first before I even thought about getting a snake, but they came around slowly.

my mother is the same, she will say i can get a snake then it moves to any reptile i want other then a snake then it goes to never ever get any more then a few weeks later it starts all over again. iv just goten used to it and i plan on taking mum along to a rep expo and she will probly fall inlove with all the things there and get her own licence and buy everything

someone said something about the power prices, i have a mate whos mum couldnt afford the extra power and bits and pices but she eventualy let him keep reptiles but he has to be able to pay for everything him self and have enough saved up just incase he cant work the next month., perants eventualy come around to the idea that their little ones realy want something.

What I find weird is she loves my gecko and said I can get another then changes her mind???
I always suck up to her lol it doesnt work. I'm always polite when I ask her, but asking her is like stirring a dormant volcano, she could explode at any second.
Anyway, I'm getting a scholarship interview and if it goes well and I get it my mum says I can get ANY animal I want within reason (excluding snakes), hope she keeps her word on that one.

ravan, that is an awesome idea!!!! thanks for that!
    WOOO she signed it
