iPAD video converter
Hi,
Wondering if any tech heads out there can offer some suggestions.
I have the Planet Earth docco series on my computer in an mkv container. On my iPAD I use the VLC app so I can just put movie files straight onto the iPAD without the need to convert them. If I try to play this file on the iPAD, a pop up comes up basically saying the file might experience difficulties and might not play properly (something along those lines), and of course it doesn't play smoothly.
Original file's details are: File size is 367MB
Video;
Resolution: 1280X720. Framerate: 23.976 fps. Encoder h264.
Audio;
Encoder: aac. Sample Rate: 24000hz. Channels: Stereo
Looking for a way, or setting suggestion on one of the programs listed below, to end up with a suitable, playable file, not bigger than the original, and converts in less or equal to the files runtime.
I have tried;
Handbrake - iPAD preset takes around an hour or more to convert
Aiseesoft total video converter - converted in 30-40 minutes but new mp4 file is nearly 1GB
E.M Total Video Converter - Too long.

MPEG Streamclip is a good converter, though I don't know if its suitable for your application. Its a free download.

I admin Gaming site where i need to record evidence. Sometimes these recordings are massive files. Handbrake handles the conversion well. I have other programs. But you need to purchase them.

you could also download team viewer a free app on ipad and leave your computer turned on so you use your ipad as a remote for your computer and can watch whatever is on your computer on the ipad and control it .
works well if you like playing games that need a flash player as well cause ipad cant play them

Thanks Ambush,
As mentioned I have handbrake but the file was quite a large size and took a while to convert. I'm going to try the manual target size function and see if it loses too much quality.
Thanks Darrring,
Although I need the files on the iPAD. I have about 30 episodes of mkv files to convert to watch on plane trips.
