watering systems
Hi Guys
we have an empty garden which we are going to lanscape. Before we do I want to install a watering system. I am not sure which one to get and I have looked at so many different types.
Has anyone installed one and found it good and what was the brand.
I want to use it rigged up to our rainwater tanks
Also an aside question, what have people used their tank water for and what it the most effective use of it. I mean should hubby and I be forgetting about the garden and would we make significant savings from running the water through toilets and for washing ?? or is it not worth doing it because the plumbing to set it up is not worth it compared to the savings etc
Kind regards
Elizabeth

ive not got one but what about those underground hoses that allow the water to soak thru? sorry to be non specific but i honestly cant remember what they are called, i just know they are black and the water seeps thru them slowly, i think the ones that pop up can be a problem with the nossles blocking up and breaking off
if you run the washing and toilets thru the water tank what will happen if you run out of water? also if you do go that way you could possibly set it up so the grey water waters the garden

The most efficient is probably soakers.
I've set up 30m of irrigation (mains plumbing though) for less than $30... You can go cheap and try bunnings... But you can go cheaper an find a local irrigation specialist - that's the best place to start!
And I tell you - you're garden will love you for it!Give a man a fish and feed him for a day...
Teach a man to fish and feed him for a life time (or until fish become extinct, which ever occurs first)

Drip line is the most water efficient and mostly recommended if you are using soley tankwater. Whats plants are you planning on watering?, as this may influence the ammount of water needed.
If grey water or non drinking water will be used, you need to get the purple coloured poly pipe. As far as timers and controls are concerned this will also depend on the garden set up. You can spend pretty much a little or alot depending on what budget suits your needs and still get good results.

Drip line - that was the words I was looking for (thank you)... Too early on a Sunday morning... and we just hit DST... I couldn't think of the word(s)...

Hi thanks guys
I have had a drip sysem before and found it good but wasnt sure if it would work with rainwater. So will look into these again....there are so many options out there is it hard to know what to look at.
Jeannie I was thinking more in terms of having a choice to use the rainwater tanks or mains switch.......just wondering if anyone has gone down this pathway or household water.
Thanks everyone its been really helpful
